Longfellow students worked with art teachers Amoreena Rathke and Clinton Grabhorn and local artist Chase Gentry to create a triptych mural representing their school and community. Funded through local support and a student-led pottery and plant sale, the project involved students throughout a six-month design and painting process.
The mural will debut at Longfellow’s Spring Family Night on May 6, be featured at Artspire 2026 on June 13 (with a public Chalkfest activity), and will later be installed in the school’s outdoor classroom.

LA CROSSE, Wis., (January 19, 2026) – Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, the School District of La Crosse will expand its All-Day 4K Preschool program to all of its elementary schools, giving more young learners the time, care, and experiences they need to build confidence and feel excited about learning.
